Subteams

CUBMD has recently been transforming into a more project-based team, rather than a subteam-based team. This means all members, regardless of their focus on either Product Development (more leaning towards engineering aspect) or Business and Design, collaborate and work closely together on projects and device development. However, each member will have one focus that aligns with their primary interests. For instance, Business members can also expect to be assigned separate non-project related tasks such as sponsor outreach, fundraising, organizing larger whole-team events, etc.

Product Development

The product development subteam is a collaborative group of students that focuses on the innovative design and construction of the proposed project idea. This process generally consists of developing rough prototypes and adopting new iterations that improve the efficiency and practicality of the product. Members of this subteam possess a wide variety of skills including the ability to model with CAD software, 3D print, prototype with Arduino’s, design printed circuit boards, and develop user applications that communicate with our device. This team is multidisciplinary in nature but is generally composed of biomedical engineering students and computer science majors.

Business & Design

The Business and Design subteam is responsible for all business and operational matters related to biomedical device development. Business members gain hands-on experience identifying potential markets, conducting patent research, estimating manufacturing costs, and analyzing competitors for our devices. The business subteam also initiates conversations and outreach with physicians and technical professionals during device brainstorming. Members understand device functions from a clinical perspective and evaluate the feasibility of device production. In addition to project-specific business tasks, business members support fundraising and community outreach efforts.

Media

The Media team is composed of graphic designers and web developers. The graphic designers are responsible for managing our social media accounts and designing team gear, as well as preparing flyers, presentations, and handouts. The webmasters are responsible for managing our team websites, including our general, LinkedIn, and Giving Day pages.
