Our Mission

Biomedical Device at Cornell (CUBMD) is a team of multidisciplinary undergraduate students formed under a shared interest for biomedical device innovation to further advance healthcare. There still exist numerous deficiencies in the cost-efficiency and efficacy of devices being used in surgery — often due to lack of better technology and unregulated pricing that create excessive and needless financial burdens for those seeking medical aid. As aspiring physicians and biomedical engineers, we are inspired to decrease costs while creating devices that provide solutions to problems in the biotech industry. The decisions and ideas we make now will be the foundation on which we will shape our future. Our mission is to identify contemporary problems in the field of biomedical devices, design and innovate solutions to said problems, and compete in biomedical engineering competitions with our ideas.

Why CUBMD? CUBMD's approach is distinct. Before embarking on any design journey, our Outreach team conducts thorough research and engages with numerous medical professionals and patients. We focus on identifying critical unmet needs by asking, "How can we enhance the lives of the greatest number of people? What gaps exist in current healthcare solutions?" Based on these inquiries, we conceive products that target overlooked issues, crafting biomedical devices that compete and serve a broader purpose. We actively pursue opportunities to patent our designs or collaborate with non-profit organizations that share our vision. This ensures that our innovations not only exist on paper but also reach production, making a tangible impact in the lives of those who need it most.

At CUBMD, we don't rest after the initial success. We continually assess our products, asking, "What more can be done?" This iterative process ensures that we remain at the forefront of innovation, consistently pushing the boundaries of what is possible in biomedical device development.
